Truro is the administrative and retail centre of the county. It boasts a wide range of specialist retailers as well as most of the "big nationals". Currently regeneration of the "Lemon Quay" area is progressing ahead of schedule and will feature a pedestrianised piazza area on the former central car park outside of the Hall for Cornwall. The town centre is dominated by the unusual neo-Gothic Truro Cathedral, with its spire-topped towers, built between 1880 and 1910. Hemmed in by modern neighbours, the central tower rises to 76 metres (250 feet); the interior is grand and spacious.Truro's many fine Georgian houses and terraces are a reminder of copper- and tin-mining wealth and these subjects are explored in the attractive Royal Cornwall Museum, which also includes some fine landscape paintings by artists of the Newlyn School of Art.
